Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN) is an independent, non- governmental and non-profitable uniformed youth organisation founded on the 10th of July 1998 in Kaduna State, Nigeria principally by a youth development advocate and strategist, Dr Dickson A. O .Akoh, FCITr, FCPA, FNSIS, fnli, with the support of like-minded youths with vast experiences in different sectors to promote national creativity, peace and youth development.

Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN) is an independent, non- governmental and non-profitable uniformed youth organisation founded on the 10th of July 1998 in Kaduna State, Nigeria principally by a youth development advocate and strategist, Dr Dickson A. O .Akoh, FCITr, FCPA, FNSIS, fnli, with the support of like-minded youths with vast experiences in different sectors to promote national creativity, peace and youth development. It is registered as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) on 1stMay 2002 in accordance with the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA), 1990 of the Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, LFN under Part “C” now Part “F” with a registration number, CAC/IT/14589. The Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning granted the Corps alicense to operate in Nigeria as a Non-Governmental Organization with Ref. No.: MBNP/NGO-IC/S.1503/VOL.1/64 dated 11th January, 2023. Peace Corps brings the right people together to challenge established thinking and drive transformation.

At PCN, we believe that well-oriented young people possess the power to solve the world’s toughest problems, and for over 25 years, we have led and sustained coordinated action to harness the talents and potentials of Nigeria’s young people. At the heart of our efforts is capacity building programmes that propel the youths  to success as citizens and tailor their creative potentials towards volunteerism, peace work and community services.

The cardinal aim of PCN is to develop in the youths the attributes of patriotism, good citizenship, positive work ethics, sound leadership qualities, physical fitness and to stimulate their interest towards the onerous task of nation-building.

PCN is Nigeria's foremost voluntary youth organization and youth self-support initiative and volunteerism have been taken as the basis for all PCN intervention and SDGs activities to enable them to contribute positively towards the mainstreaming of social development process. It has had partnership with national and international organisations like the National Youth Council of Nigeria and its affiliate bodies, National Association of Nigerian Students, Universal Peace Federation, Youth Federation for World Peace, African Union and United Nations and its organs. In carrying out its mandate, the Corps aligns itself with international best practices on youth empowerment, humanitarian services and social works..

From its inception to date, PCN and its members have encountered diverse contemporary challenges, but each member of the Corps had been trained to approach such challenges with strict discipline, unwavering patriotism and undying passion.
The efforts of Peace Corps officers, particularly in Schools and Colleges, represent an enduring legacy of selfless service, and have become a significant part of social mobilisation of the Nigerian youths in the onerous task of nation-building.

Our comprehensive and practical orientation programmes serve as social mechanisms to assist the youth to cope with the many challenges of the 21st century.

BECOME A MEMBER

The membership of the PCN is open to all Nigerian youths, irrespective of their religion, tribe, sex or social status. Currently, PCN has a membership strength of over 187,000 youths, comprising of both regular members and volunteers.

Also, it has a well-structured network of branches in all the 36 States of the Federation, including the Federal Capital Territory.

The activities of PCN are generally related to the promotion of peace and social order, youth development/empowerment, volunteerism, humanitarian services, environmental health and preservation/maintenance of social order.

Regular Members

Membership of the organization is exclusively preserved for Nigerian citizens, and is open to all youth, both male and female, irrespective of political and social status, ethnicity, State of origin or religious affiliation.

In accordance with the relevant provisions of the Constitution of PCN, membership of the organization is open to all students of educational institutions, from the secondary to tertiary levels. Membership is on voluntary basis.
