It was a glamorious Event full of fun fare amidst showers of blessing and eulogies on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at the National University Commission Abuja, as the Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN) celebrated it 24th Anniversary / 2022 Founder’ Day,
which attracted a whopping gift of $3000 worth of ZugaCoin for every Member of the Organisation, from the CEO of ZubaCoin, Bishop Sam Zuga.
The Occassion was graced by notable Personalities and Young Leaders from across the Federation, as the high capacity Multipurpose Hall of the National University Commission was fully jammed, with the famous Peace Corp Band at its best thrilling audience.
In his Anniversary Speech, the National Commandant, Prof. Dickson A.O. Akoh, explained that the celebration was originally supposed to hold on the 10th of July, but was pulled back to July 6, in honour of the Muslim Sallah Celebration which coincided with this year’s Anniversary of the Organisation.
Prof. Akoh went ahead to re-assert the motivational factor behind establishing the Peaxe Corps of Nigeria,m; which was his passion towards promoting Peaxeful Coexistence to achieve functional and Sustainable Growth Index in Youth Development across the Federation.
The National Commandant then went down the highly inspiring memory lane of PCN, from the days of humble beginning in Kaduna as a mere idea in the mind of a Young Boy, through periods of daunting challenges and human oppositions, to times of local, national and international recognitions, stressing the need for clear Vision, Focus, Resilience and unwavering Trust in God to actualize any Dream or Aspiration in life
“For me, I have learnt two major lessons from the journey thus far; First is sacrifice and courage amidst all obstacles or adversities. Life begins at the end of your comfort zone. Whatever a man can conceive and believe, he can achieve”.
Prof. Akoh highlighted some major achievements of PCN over the years, and concluded by justifying the Theme of the Anniversary being, 2022 General Elections: the Role of the Youth in Security and Peacebuilding. He stress the indispensibility of the Youth in ensuring a violent free and credible Election considering the demography and characteristics of the age bracket
He took time to commend the courage and steadfastness of Members and Officers of the Corps across the Country, while appreciating all supports and solidarity from Friends over the year. In his words “it doesn’t matter where you go in life, what you achieve, or what you do. What matters most is who you have besides you along the way.”.
Before saying a very anointed and prophetic Prayer over the Peace Corps of Nigeria, Bishop Sam Zuga, the CEO of ZugaCoin eulogized the National Commandant and entire PCN Community, emphasizing that it takes uncommon grace and divine endorsement to sustain such massive national Initiative successfully over twenty four years without Government funding. He then declared that he would grant every member of PCN across the Country ZugaCoin worth $3000 US and teach all beneficiaries how to make at least $50 on daily basis.
The newly coronated Ochi’Idoma V, who was the Royal Father of the Occassion, and making his first official appearance in a public function, said he had to stand up to address the audience, against traditions, considering the personal value he placed upon the PCN and Occassion. He invoked his Kingly and Priestly Mandates and issued authoritative spiritual decrees over the passage and final signing of the Nigerian Peace Corps Bill into Law, before the end of the Administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Anniversary had the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha as Special Guest of Honour, Prof. Steve Ugba- Former Nigerian Ambassador to Russia as Chairman, Rt. Hon. Alhasan Ado Dugawa, the Majority Leader Federal House of Representatives as Co-Chairman, Sen. Dr. George Akume- the Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs as Father of the Day, and Dame Pauline Talen, Minister of Women Affairs as Mother of the Day, alongside other highly respected national figures as Guests of Honour.
